Title: Fungal commensalism and pathogenesis: a complex host-microbe interaction
Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, CAS
Changbin Chen, PhD., Professor, Principal investigator, Division of Pathogenic Fungal Infection & Host Immunity, The Center for Microbes, Development and Health (CMDH), Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Chen obtained bachelor degree in 1995 at Shanghai Fudan University, Master degree in 1998 at Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy, and Ph.D. degree in 2004 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. Dr. Chen had his Postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) from 2005 to 2010, later on was employed as a specialist (2011-2013). In 2013, Dr. Chen join in the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, CAS and became independent. The research in his group mainly focuses on the mechanisms involved in the relationship between microbiota and human disease, fungal virulence and host immune responses, which specific aims at: 1) decipher the molecular basis related to fungal commensalism and pathogenicity, the regulatory modules of virulence gene expression and the mechanism of host anti-fungal immune response, providing the strategies for the control and prevention of fungal infection, as well as the discovery of new targets of antifungal drugs; 2) Taking advantage of metagenomics, proteomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics technology, with the combination of experimental animal models, we aim to develop new pathogen diagnosis technology and discover new antifungals, with particular emphasis on prevention and treatment of clinically important infectious diseases, including microbial drug resistance, co-infection in the process of organ transplantation, gynecological diseases caused by fungal infection, skin infection, meningitis and sepsis. Dr. Chen have published more than 30 papers in high profile journals such as Cell, Nature Genetics, Cell Host & Microbe, PNAS, PLOS Pathogens. The research studies of his group have been supported by multiple funds, including NSFC, MOST.
