Professor Hongwei ZHOU is Director of Microbiome Medicine Center and Director of Division of Laboratory Medicine of Zhujiang Hospital, at Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, China. His major research interests include the role of human microbiome in metabolic diseases, stroke, and pregnancy, and the development of novel diagnosis biomarkers through omics techniques. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University in 1997, Master’s degree from Tsinghua University in 2002, and PhD from City University of Hong Kong in 2006. Since then he has been a faculty member in School of Public Health, Southern Medical University. From 2012 to 2013, he investigated OTU clustering methods as a visiting scholar in Rob Knight’s lab at University of Colorado Boulder. In 2016, he was appointed as Director of Division of Laboratory Medicine at Zhujiang Hospital, where he founded the Microbiome Medicine Center of Southern Medical University in 2018. He has published over 70 research papers in leading journals including Nature Medicine (cover story), Gut, Microbiome, ISME Journal etc.
