Romain KOSZUL is a biologist and computer engineer by training, a former student of the University of Paris-Sud and of AgroParisTech. From 2001 to 2004, he prepared a doctorate in biology at the Pierre and Marie Curie University and Institut Pasteur. In 2005, he joined Nancy Kleckner's laboratory at Harvard University in the United States, where he worked for four years on the mechanical properties and dynamics of chromosomes. He set up the team 'Spatial regulation of genomes' in 2010 the Institut Pasteur.
The ongoing research projects of Dr Koszuls lab explores general principles and species-specific regulation of genome organization and how they relate to chromosome metabolisms, by combining approaches such as genetics, synthetic biology, computer science and modeling. The laboratory has a strong expertise in developing ad-hoc computational tools and proximity ligation genomic protocols, that are now being applied to a broad variety of questions, including metagenomic analysis, gene flow, etc.
